Final Reflection Blog Post

My favorite blog post was the Math Teaching Lesson Plan. I thought that it allowed me to practice lesson planning and creativity in the classroom. I thought that the feedback from my peers were really insightful and helped me see the blindspots I had in my lesson. I also enjoyed the Skemp article in the very beginning. I thought that it was a good read and helped us reflect on how we are to teach different audiences in a classroom with different styles of learning (instrumental and relational).

Overall, I felt like the class could have a heavier focus on the BC curriculum in particular. I felt unprepared to lesson plan for my short practicum, because we did not start lesson plans until the week before and the week after short practicum. I also felt like we spent too much time on the creative aspect of teaching. Yes, it is nice to be creative once in a while, but as secondary math teachers, the majority of our time consists of content teaching and classroom management.

  1. Thanks very much for your clear and thoughtful reflection on our course, Nathaniel! Hope you have been having a relaxing holiday, and wishing you a great second semester and practicum.
